Public passenger transport is a cornerstone of modern urban life, representing a rich history of technical development and innovation. The Technical Museum of Slovenia houses several precious exhibits from this era, including three tram cars from the former Ljubljana street railway and two buses from LPP (Ljubljana Passenger Transport).

The temporary exhibition Buses and Trolleybuses of Ljubljana 1927–1994, prepared by researcher Jožef Trpin in collaboration with the National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia, offers visitors an insight into the storied history of city transit. Through a series of technical plans and photographs, the exhibition showcases the various types of vehicles used for daily passenger transport in the capital.

A Domestic Technical Achievement

A centerpiece of the exhibition is the TAM 260A 116M city bus from 1993, a product of the domestic automotive industry of the time. The engine and chassis were manufactured at the TAM factory in Maribor, while the bodywork and final design—featuring 26 seats and 66 standing places—were completed by Avtomontaža in Ljubljana. Visitors will be able to view this nearly 12-meter-long vehicle as one of the museum’s largest 3D exhibits, displayed alongside other TAM vehicles in Bistra.

The exhibition allows visitors to discover these buses and trolleybuses not merely as technical objects, but as reflections of their era, the city’s evolving needs, and the people who helped shape urban life.
